Simuni Dastani

Simuni Dastani is son of the makonde master Simon Nyedi Dastani.  He carves together with his brothers Nyedi and Boniface. Simuni Dastani is most promising of them and he knows English which has helped him in marketing his family´s art when father died several years ago. But all son (There are also their sisters – Selina, Bandita and Maria) have now very hard time since they lost strong father, leader. Simun Dastani tried with small success to paint also. Simuni is born in Dar es Salaam, went to primary school in Mtoni Kijichi and started to carve when he was 12 years old. He is continuing in fathers steps – carving makonde spirits, as he says.
