Pony Yengi
Pony Joseph Yengi was born in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania on July 29th, 1967. After finishing her studies at secondary school she attends a course in Radio Switchboard and Electrical Technology at Intercoms College in Dar Es Salaam. Later on she realises that her heart is not much burning for technologies and decides to continue with art. At her age of 21 she starts making batik cards and later on she continues at Nyumba ya Sanaa (in English – House of Art). She works with pencil, pen, water colours, drawings as well as a textile designer. After three years stay at Nyumba she goes on as a free-lance artist. Yengi gets in a contact with Finnish Art Association in 1993, that brings her later to Finland where she joins a year course in Fine Art at the Academy of Fine Art in Helsinki. She has traveled throughout many Europeans countries and has participated in many workshops and seminars. Her work has been seen at various art locations as at Contemporary Art from Tanzania and Zimbabwe in Finland in 1993, “One-woman show” exhibition in Helsinki, Finland in 1997.
