Clementi Matei

Clementi Matei (Also spelled Clement Mataye) was born in 1933 in Mozambique in the village Nanyagaja. He came to Dar es Salaam in 1963. He teacher was John Fundi and Manuel Maboya.Clementi Matei is one of main representatives of the Ujamaa and Mashetani style. His works are widely exhibited. The first exhibition was organized in Jamaica in 1975, shorlty followed by Holand, France and Belgium in 1976. Clementi Matei was personally present at these exhibitions. Though over 70 years old he is still sculpting in Zinga, near Bagamoyo.
