MORRIS FOIT´S SCULPTURE: BIRTH IN THE GARDEN
The work of mine I like best is called Birth in the Garden because it has a sentimental story behind it. When I was working on the sculpture in Jevanjee Garden in Nairobi someone came to tell me that a woman had given birth just outside. I went and asked the women if they were doctors or nurses; they were street women and said they knew how to handle it. So I told the new mother that if she forgot the date of birth of her child, she could go look at my sculpture in the garden because the date is on it. And I’m happy because now I have a piece in a public place just like Foit, who has one on the university grounds.
